This was also the time to gather inside to tend the fires and retell the stories. There were many Cherokees that remained in the East, primarily north Carolina & Georgia. The Cherokees live in Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Georgia still to this day. The Cherokee heritage is being preserved by the Cherokee people through powwows, reservations, and through passing it down from generation to generation. The Cherokees immigrated to America in the 17th and 18th centuries. Their ancestors came thousands of years ago.
